The Dallas area ranks fourth in the nation with undocumented or illegal residents (depended on a person's political language). We have 475,000 residents that are not legal in the Dallas area, but even more astounding is that over 275,000 of these residents reside within the city of Dallas which means that one out of five residents in the city limits of Dallas do not have legal status. For all the "tough talk" in Texas of illegal immigration, Dallas and Houston are the top two cities in the nation based on population size with an undocumented population. and it has been that way for a number of years. Dallas is an affluent city, and its affluency requires workers who will work in the restaurants, clean the homes, do the landscaping, work in the nail salons and retail markets - many of those workers do not have legal status. Tough talk and reality collide in Dallas, probably more so than any other city in the nation.
