Developers will have the first homes ready in a few months in a 2,000-acre mixed-use community in Forney. The Gateway Parks project south of U.S. Highway 80 will have 439 single-family home sites in the first phase. It's part of the $1 billion Gateway development. Builders David Weekley Homes, Gehan Homes and Horizon Homes will sell new houses starting in the mid-$200,000s. "We've brought in a slate of quality builders at an affordable price point that buyers want," Alan Bain, Gateway's vice president of real estate development, said in a statement. "The first builder models will be open in early 2017, and since the number of new, affordable homes available in D-FW is at an all-time low, this inventory should help ease that buyer demand." The two-story homes will range from 1,800 to 3,500 square feet in the Gateway Parks community. Gateway Parks also includes a resort-style amenity center with a clubhouse, three swimming pools and an event lawn with an outdoor entertainment stage. Gateway Parks is on the south side of the Gateway development and is planned to have a total of 1,840 single-family homes.
There will also be a 40-acre retail center and more than 1,300 acres for construction of additional office, medical, retail, hotel and commercial buildings. The new 540-acre home community is on South Gateway Boulevard. Gateway is being developed by an investment and real estate company owned by Dallas' Hunt family, which has owned the land for more than a decade. The development about 20 miles east of downtown Dallas already has two apartment communities. A shopping center is planned at U.S. 80 and Gateway Boulevard.
