Dallas-Fort Worth is forecast to be the largest home-start market in the nation this year. Home starts in North Texas and nationally are still nowhere near where they were before the recession. “We have doubled single-family production since the low point” in the recession, said David Crowe, chief economist for the National Association of Homebuilders. “And yet we are only halfway back.” Worries about the stock market and growing chatter about a recession didn’t override the upbeat housing market reports. Look for an 18 percent jump in nationwide home starts this year. Gyrations in the stock market and fears about a recession aren’t likely to derail the housing industry rebound, top housing economists predict.
