It's no secret that North Texas homes are getting pricey. But never before have so many high-priced houses been up for grabs here. Total sales of houses priced at $1 million and up were more than 60 percent higher in the first two months of 2017 from the same period last year. During just the first two months of this year, 177 houses in North Texas changed hands with a price tag of $1 million or more. Sales of another 75 or so million-plus homes are pending. That's a 64 percent increase in sales of million-dollar homes compared with the first two months of 2016, said James Martin, president of the MetroTexas Association of Realtors.
"It really shows the growth of our market," Martin said. "With the planned relocation of these major companies, we are actually seeing CEOs and top officers moving to the area now." Martin said more favorable lending terms for "jumbo" home mortgages are also making it easier for super priced properties to sell. Looking at high-end transactions over the last year, the vast majority of the houses selling have been priced between $1 million and $3 million. Only about a dozen D-FW houses with price tags of more than $5 million have traded.
