America, it would seem, is house poor. At least in inventory. In the Dallas area, the number of homes on the market in February was about 50 percent less than five years ago. The shortage of houses to purchase was even greater in markets such as Salt Lake City, Seattle and Nashville, where the market inventory has fallen more than 60 percent since 2012. If you're hunting a house in the D-FW area, don't expect to find a lot to choose from. At the end of February, only about 11,500 houses were listed with real estate agents.
